Glass shower doors and frameless shower glass

Glass shower doors and shower screens are one or more panels of tempered or laminated glass that separate the shower area from the rest of the bathroom — fixed, or with a hinged or sliding door. Start with the dimensions of the space and photos of the site, or any drawing you have.

How much do glass shower doors cost?

Glass shower doors and screens cost SAR 135 to 695 per square metre, supplied and installed, before VAT, in Makkah. A frameless screen starts from SAR 135 with 8 mm tempered glass and an aluminium-framed one from SAR 335. The figure rises with glass thickness, shape, door type and sandblasting.

In a frameless screen the price is the glass itself: SAR 135/m² for 8 mm, 162 for 10 mm, 190 for 12 mm and 225 for 13.52 mm laminated glass. The shape (straight, corner or three-sided), the opening (fixed, hinged or sliding), sandblasting for privacy at SAR 32/m² and the optional nano coating then set where your screen falls within the range.

The cost of a frameless shower door starts from the same SAR 135/m² glass rate, and a hinged or sliding door adds to it, so a screen with a door costs more per square metre than a fixed panel in the same glass; the cost calculator shows the figure for your choices. For a bathroom glass door price in frosted glass, add the SAR 32/m² for sandblasting. Shower glass installation cost is included, not added: every figure here covers supply and installation in Makkah, and other cities add only 3% to 10% for transport and installation. Jobs under 3 m² are priced at a 3 m² minimum, as the price guide explains.

Types of shower glass: fixed walk-in panel, hinged or sliding door

Comparison of shower screen and glass shower enclosure types
TypeWhat it isSuitsWhat is reviewed
Fixed panel, no doorA single tempered glass panel that separates the showerMedium-sized bathrooms and walk-in showersThe simplest option, with the fewest parts
Hinged doorA glass door that swings outwards on hingesBathrooms with free space in front of the doorClear space in front, and fittings that resist moisture
Sliding doorA glass door that slides alongside a fixed panelNarrow bathroomsThe fittings and their resistance to moisture

A fixed panel with no door, also called a glass shower divider or shower divider wall, suits walk-in and standing showers: the shower entrance stays open, and without a door it has the fewest parts of any type.

Frameless shower door: hinged (swing) or sliding

A frameless shower door is a tempered glass panel within the screen that swings on hinges or slides on a track: the hinged door needs clear space in front of it, while the sliding door suits tight bathrooms. Hinges, handles and their resistance to moisture are reviewed. By shape, the screen is straight, set in a corner (L-shaped) or three-sided (U-shaped) around the shower, which turns it into a glass shower enclosure. Whether it sits in a corner or wraps three sides, the enclosure is also known as a glass shower cubicle, cabin, stall or box.

Frameless or framed shower door: which suits your bathroom?

Frameless glass sits in a slim aluminium U-channel, so the bathroom looks larger and its tiles stay fully visible, which is why a frameless screen is described as a seamless or all-glass shower. An aluminium frame around the glass holds it firmly and protects its edges, which suits a classic style and large panels.

A black framed shower door is the framed screen with its aluminium frame finished in black to match black fittings; framed screens start from SAR 335/m². If you are weighing up a semi frameless shower door, the nearer of our two systems is the frameless one: a slim aluminium U-channel holds the glass, so only a thin metal line shows, while the framed screen puts aluminium around every edge.

Which glass is used for shower screens: clear or frosted tempered glass?

Shower screens always use safety glass: 8, 10 or 12 mm tempered glass, or 13.52 mm laminated glass where the panel must stay in place if it breaks. The thickness follows the bathroom size and the shower position. Finishes include sandblasting for privacy and an optional nano coating that helps water run off before it dries.

Clear glass keeps the shower and its tiles in full view. Frosted shower glass, sometimes called obscure glass, is the same safety glass sandblasted for privacy, so the shower is screened from view. Sandblasting adds SAR 32/m² and can be chosen for a fixed panel, for frosted glass shower doors, hinged or sliding, or for a whole frosted shower enclosure.

Nano coating is a thin transparent layer that makes water slide off the glass before it dries and leaves mineral spots. For projects with more than one glass application, see the types and thicknesses of tempered glass.

Can glass shower doors be fitted on a bathtub?

Yes. A bath with a shower over it takes the same tempered glass as a walk-in shower: a single fixed bath screen, a hinged panel, or sliding doors that run along the tub edge. The rim of the bathtub becomes the base of the screen, so its width and level are checked in the site photos before the glass is sized.

Fixed bath screen or sliding tub doors?

A fixed bath screen covers the part of the tub under the shower head and leaves the rest open, while sliding glass doors close the whole length of the bath and suit narrow bathrooms. Either can be frameless, in a slim aluminium U-channel, or framed in aluminium, and both are priced within the same SAR 135 to 695 per m² range as any shower screen.

How is a glass shower door installed?

Step by step, with every size fixed before the glass is tempered. The shower area is measured on site once the tiles are finished, then the panel sizes and the hinge or handle holes are set on the approved shop drawing. Next, the glass is cut, edged and drilled, and only then tempered. On site it is set in a slim aluminium U-channel, the door is hung, and the joints are sealed with silicone.

This order applies equally to a fixed walk-in panel, a hinged or sliding door and a full corner enclosure. Because tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled on site, a wrong size means a new panel, so the measurements are approved before the order.

Glass shower door installation stays with one company from start to finish: we measure, supply and install each screen ourselves, in Makkah and across Saudi Arabia.

Before choosing a shower screen: the space and how it is used

To suggest the right shape and layout, we need to understand:

  • the dimensions of the shower area
  • where the screen sits in the bathroom
  • the required height
  • whether the screen includes a door
  • the opening direction and how it will be used
  • the wall and floor details around it
  • any glass or finish requirements

This avoids a shape or layout that does not fit the real space.

Frequently asked questions about shower glass

What information is needed to price a shower screen?

Photos of the bathroom from two angles, the width and height of the area to be separated, the shower position, the preferred door opening direction, and whether the floor is level. These set the shape and opening of the screen (fixed, hinged or sliding) and where the price falls within SAR 135–695 per m², supplied and installed, before VAT.

Does a shower screen need a site visit if the bathroom is already finished?

It may. A visit helps when the walls, floors and finishes are already done, or when details do not show clearly in photos. Start by sending photos and initial measurements; they show whether a visit is needed before the dimensions are approved.

Does a glass shower screen stop water leaving the shower?

It limits it, as long as its position and height relative to the shower head are set correctly and the joints between glass, wall and floor are sealed. Drainage inside the shower depends on the floor falls, which is why we ask for the shower position and the floor condition before pricing.

How long does a shower screen take?

For screens under 20 m², the indicative time is 7 to 9 working days from approved shop drawings to handover. The exact duration is written in the itemised quote.

Which glass shower door is best for a small bathroom?

A sliding door is usually the best choice for a small bathroom: it slides alongside a fixed panel, needs no space in front of it and suits narrow bathrooms. A hinged door swings outwards, so it needs clear floor space before it. The shape (straight, corner or three-sided) then follows the shower position shown in your photos and initial measurements.

Are glass shower doors and enclosures custom-made?

Yes. Every glass shower door, screen and enclosure is made to the approved dimensions of your bathroom, produced in Makkah from shop drawings and installed on site across Saudi Arabia. You choose the shape, the opening, the glass thickness, sandblasting and the nano coating, and these choices set where the price falls within SAR 135–695 per m², before VAT.

Is a shower screen the same as a bathroom glass partition?

In practice, yes. In Saudi Arabia a shower screen is usually called a bathroom glass partition or shower divider: one or more panels of tempered or laminated glass that separate the shower from the rest of the bathroom. It is priced as a bathroom partition, from SAR 135/m² frameless or SAR 335/m² framed. Office partitions are a separate service, under glass partitions.

Can a frameless shower enclosure fit in a corner?

A corner shower enclosure is the L-shaped option: two tempered glass panels meet in the corner of the bathroom, with a hinged or sliding door in one of them. A three-sided (U-shaped) cubicle closes the shower on three sides. Shape affects the price: a straight screen is the most economical and the most common in homes, while three-sided costs the most.

Can a shower glass panel sit on a half wall?

It can. Where a walk-in shower has a tiled half wall, a fixed glass panel can stand on top of it in the same slim aluminium U-channel that holds it at floor level. The wall keeps its lower part private and the glass above keeps the shower open to light. Its width and level are checked in the site photos before the panel is sized.

Do you install shower glass outside Makkah?

Yes. Screens are made in Makkah and installed on site across Saudi Arabia; outside Makkah only transport and installation are added: 3% for Jeddah and Taif, 5% for Madinah, 8% for Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 10% for Abha, Tabuk and Qassim.
