Shade for home and company parking
Car parking shades and carports in Makkah
A car parking shade is an outdoor roof over a parking space that protects the car from sun, dust and rain: wall-mounted with front columns, cantilevered, freestanding on four columns, or in rows for company and school car parks. With an aluminium frame and a roof of aluminium slats, it is also known as a pergola carport. A fixed shade starts from SAR 685/m² before VAT in Makkah.
What is a carport?
A carport is a roofed structure over a parking space, left open on at least one side so the car can drive in and out. It stops direct sun, dust and rain before they reach the car, and because it has no walls or door it costs less than a closed garage and stays better ventilated.
As the Wikipedia article on carports notes, it may stand alone or attach to a wall. In Makkah the sun does the most damage: it heats the cabin, fades paint and dries door seals, and a permanent shade deals with all of it.
Types of car parking shades: fixed, cantilever or freestanding?
We build car parking shades in four ways, and the difference is what carries the roof: a fixed shade rests on the wall behind and columns in front; a cantilever hangs from the wall alone, leaving its front open; a freestanding shade stands on four columns; and multi-bay rows cover several cars.
| Type | What carries the roof | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Wall-mounted with front columns | The wall behind and columns at the front edge | Home parking next to a wall; the most economical per m² |
| Cantilever without front columns | The wall side alone, with a stronger section | Narrow entrances, or where a column would block the doors |
| Freestanding on 4 columns | Four columns with their own bases | Open ground away from walls |
| Multi-bay rows | A row of columns under one continuous roof | Company car parks, residential buildings and schools |
A cantilever costs more per m² because its whole roof load sits on the wall side. A wall-mounted shade with a slatted roof is what many call a car pergola. Modern pergola carport designs attached to the house rely on clean lines rather than ornament: an open front without columns, a roof of parallel slats and a powder-coated or wood-look aluminium frame. For the same systems over seating and pools see aluminium pergolas.
Frame and roof: aluminium with solid slats
The frame you see is aluminium, every shade is made to measure, and you choose the finish:
- Powder-coated aluminium — a light frame that does not rust or need repainting, the better choice near humidity, as in Jeddah
- Wood-look aluminium — timber colour and grain without cracking or rot (+SAR 215/m²)
- Solid aluminium slats — the roof: it blocks the sun fully, keeps out rain and dust and does not yellow; a laminated glass roof is priced by quote
How much does a car parking shade cost per square metre?
A fixed car parking shade starts from SAR 685/m² and a cantilever one without front columns from SAR 1,005/m², supplied and installed, before VAT, in Makkah, including the standard 10×10 cm load-bearing section and wall fixing. A wood-look frame adds SAR 215/m². There is no price per car.
Example: a 30 m² parking space with a fixed shade, powder-coated aluminium frame and solid aluminium slats starts from SAR 20,550 before VAT (30 × 685), the area being width × projection as measured on site. Outside Makkah only transport and installation are added: Jeddah and Taif +3%, Madinah +5%, Riyadh and the Eastern Province +8%, and Abha, Tabuk and Qassim +10%. Freestanding and multi-bay shades are priced once the site visit sets their columns and bases; other systems are in the aluminium and glass price guide.
How do we install a car parking shade?
Installation runs in four stages, from the first photo of the parking space to handover. The indicative time for a shade under 30 m² is 10 to 14 working days, counted from approved shop drawings to handover, and the binding duration is written in the itemised quote.
- Photograph the parking space Send photos from the gate and from inside, the approximate width and depth, the number of cars, and whether a wall can carry the roof.
- Site visit We measure width, projection and height, choose the 10×10 cm or reinforced 15×15 cm section, and place columns clear of the car and its doors.
- Approval and fabrication After you approve sizes and shop drawings, the frame is cut and prepared at our Makkah factory.
- Installation and handover Column bases or wall brackets go in first, then the frame and roof; slope and rainwater drainage are checked before handover.
Frequently asked questions about car parking shades
Can you install a car shade without front columns?
Yes, as a cantilever shade: its roof is carried from the wall alone, so no column blocks the car or its doors. It starts from SAR 1,005/m² before VAT in Makkah, as it needs a stronger section and firmer fixing, and the site visit first confirms the wall can carry it.
What is the best roof for a car shade in the Makkah heat?
Solid aluminium slats: they block the sun completely, keep the car cooler, keep out rain and dust and do not yellow. For daylight under the roof, a laminated glass cover is priced by quote.
Does a car shade need a wall?
No. Without a wall, the shade stands on four columns with their own bases, set at the site visit before the quote. With a wall, the wall carries the back of the roof.
What size is a single car shade?
There is no fixed size; each shade is made to its site. The visit measures a width that lets the doors open, a projection that fits the longest car and its entry path, and a height that clears the tallest vehicle. Sheltered shades up to about 15 m² use the standard 10×10 cm section; larger or wind-exposed ones may need 15×15 cm.
What is the difference between a pergola and a carport?
The difference is what each one shades. A carport is sized around the car: tall enough for the highest vehicle, deep enough for the longest, with columns kept away from its doors. A pergola shades seating, gardens and pools. We build both from the same aluminium systems, frame finishes and solid slat roofs.
Do you install car shades in Jeddah, Taif and Riyadh?
Yes. The shade is made in Makkah and installed on your site; only transport and installation are added: 3% for Jeddah and Taif, 5% for Madinah, 8% for Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 10% for Abha, Tabuk and Qassim.
