Saudi Building Code compliance and quality standards in aluminium and glass works

Saudi Building Code compliance matters because aluminium, glass and facade works are part of the building's own safety. We follow the requirements of the Saudi Building Code at every stage, from drawing review to handover.

How does the Saudi Building Code affect your project?

The Saudi Building Code (SBC) sets general safety requirements for building elements, including the systems tied to facades and openings: how they are fixed, how they resist the weather, and the safety requirements for glass in certain locations. We follow these requirements when reviewing drawings and choosing the system for each project.

Examples in our work: toughened (securit) glass in frameless glass doors, and laminated glass, which holds together if broken, in skylights and in glass railings. Glass type and thickness are set by height, position and what the engineer of record approves, and in tall facades the system's capacity to carry wind loads is reviewed.

Where a project requires conformity with a specific standard for materials or glass, the requirements are reviewed with the consultant against what the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) approves, before the system and the material are approved.

How do we control quality internally?

In four consecutive stages: a review before fabrication, an inspection at supply, follow-up during installation and a review before handover. Each stage checks something different, so a remark is caught at the point where it is cheapest to settle, rather than discovered after the project has been handed over.

Review before fabrication

Drawings, sizes and fabrication information clear and approved before production starts.

Inspection at supply

The condition of fabricated components checked before they leave the factory.

Follow-up during installation

Installed work reviewed as it progresses, with each remark tied at once to its area or element.

Review before handover

Every remark closed and the work matched to what was approved before handover.

These stages are part of the full workflow, detailed in aluminium project execution and quality control.

Why does Saudi Building Code compliance matter for your project?

If your project needs approvals from a consultant or a government body, or sits in a tender that requires building code conformity, making this commitment clear from the start reduces the risk of rejected work or late changes. Extra conformity requirements are best sent with the drawings and specifications, so they are reviewed early.

How do you choose a factory for your aluminium works? Six checks you can make yourself

The question is usually asked as “which is the best aluminium factory?”, which has no objective answer, because the best choice depends on the project's type, size and city. A more precise question does have an answer: what can you check yourself before you approve a factory? These six things:

  • Is it a factory or a middleman? Ask for the factory's own address, not a showroom, and ask to visit it or see its production line; ours is shown inside the Qusoor Al-Sultan factory. The difference shows in price, lead time and who answers for a mistake.
  • Commercial registration and VAT number. Ask for both and check them on the government verification platforms; a registered business gives them readily and issues a tax invoice. See the Qusoor Al-Sultan registration details.
  • Does it review drawings before pricing? A supplier who prices from a photo without asking for the size after plastering or the opening type will change the price later.
  • Is the specification written in the quotation? “Excellent aluminium windows” cannot be compared. Ask for the items in writing; see the aluminium doors and windows specification items.
  • What does the warranty cover, and what does it exclude? A verbal warranty cannot be measured. Ask whether it covers the profile, accessories, glass and installation, and what voids it; see our warranty terms.
  • Completed work you can see. Not catalogue photos, but projects close to yours in type and size; see our aluminium and glass projects.

Certificates alone are not a sufficient test: one business may hold one and not review your drawings, while another follows documented procedures and the Saudi Building Code without one.

Frequently asked questions

Does Qusoor Al-Sultan comply with the Saudi Building Code?

Yes. Qusoor Al-Sultan follows the Saudi Building Code (SBC) when reviewing drawings and choosing the system for each project: for facades and openings, how elements are fixed, how they resist the weather and the safety requirements for glass in certain locations, in line with what the engineer of record and the authorised bodies approve.

How does Qusoor Al-Sultan control quality internally?

In four consecutive stages: a review before fabrication, an inspection at supply, follow-up during installation and a review before handover. They check, in turn, approved drawings and sizes, the condition of components leaving the factory, the installed work as it progresses, and that every remark is closed before handover.

Does Qusoor Al-Sultan hold ISO certification?

No. Qusoor Al-Sultan does not hold ISO certification; it relies on documented internal control procedures in four stages and on following the Saudi Building Code. Where a project requires a specific standard for materials or glass, it is reviewed with the consultant against what SASO approves.

How do I choose a factory for aluminium works?

With six checks you can make yourself: factory or middleman, commercial registration and VAT number, a drawing review before pricing, a specification written in the quotation, what the warranty covers and excludes, and completed work you can see. “The best factory” has no objective answer; it depends on the project's type, size and city.

Which glass does the Saudi Building Code affect in aluminium and glass works?

Safety glass in certain locations: toughened glass in frameless glass doors, and laminated glass, which holds together if broken, in glass roofs and glass railings. Type and thickness follow height, position and the engineer of record's approval.
