What are aluminium privacy screens?

Aluminium privacy screens are rows of parallel aluminium slats fixed on a wall or roof edge, with regular gaps that block the view while air and light pass through. The narrower the gap, the more privacy and the less air and light, so slat density follows what needs screening. The same product is also known as privacy louvers or aluminium slat screens.

  • Privacy from neighbours and the street.
  • Ventilation — unlike a solid wall, air keeps moving behind the slats.
  • Light — daylight passes in proportion to the gap.
  • Appearance — clean, modern lines instead of a blank wall.

Aluminium does not rust, is light on an existing wall and never needs repainting.

Where are aluminium screens installed?

Wherever an open space needs privacy without a solid wall, most often in three places:

Yard screens: how is a yard screened?

Slats on top of the yard wall raise its screening height, hiding the yard from the street and neighbours' windows while air still moves through. Height and density are set at the site visit for the seating area, entrance or side passage being screened.

Roof screens: privacy without trapping the air

Along the roof edge, the screen blocks the view from neighbouring buildings and makes the roof usable. Roofs take more wind than yards, so the fixing surface is checked first.

Screens on boundary and party walls

Between neighbouring houses and villas, the screen sits on the dividing wall, raising the line between neighbours without a higher wall that blocks air and light.

Balcony louvers: screening a balcony with aluminium slats

A balcony screen is a row of aluminium slats fixed on the balcony edge or its open side. It blocks the view from the street and the buildings opposite, while air and light still reach the balcony and the room behind it. We make these balcony louvers in Makkah from the same slats as yard and roof screens, each to its own size. Height and slat density are agreed at the site visit, by the side the balcony is overlooked from. Upper floors take more wind, so the fixing point is checked before fabrication, and the quote is priced on the balcony's measured size. For shade from above, see aluminium balcony shades.

Screening a window from outside is a different job: louvers and sun breakers, fixed in front of the window itself.

Which type of yard screen is best?

The one that gives privacy and ventilation and stands up to sun and dust for years. Aluminium slats lead, because they do not rust or crack and air passes between them; cheaper options suit temporary use. A general market comparison follows; the factory builds aluminium screens only:

For permanent privacy that keeps the yard ventilated, aluminium slats last longest, though they cost more at first than plastic panels.

How are yard screens priced?

Aluminium yard screens start from SAR 350/m², supplied and installed, before VAT, for a project in Makkah, about SAR 20 to 30 per m² below louvers (from SAR 380). Other cities add 3% to 10%. The final price follows the site visit and depends on:

  • Length and height — the screen area measured on site.
  • Slat density — a narrower gap means more slats and more privacy.
  • The fixing surface — an existing wall, a roof edge or a party wall.
  • Location — working height, access and the project city, since fabrication is in Makkah.

How are aluminium screens installed?

In five steps, with each screen made to size in our Makkah factory:

  1. Send the size and photos Wall or roof-edge length, the height to screen, and photos from inside and outside.
  2. Site visit The site is measured, the fixing surface checked, and height and density agreed.
  3. Quotation Priced on the agreed sizes and density.
  4. Fabrication Slats are cut and prepared in Makkah to the approved sizes.
  5. Installation The screen is fixed, and slat alignment and fixings are checked before handover.

Shades and screens for the yard: when do you need both?

When the seating needs shade as well as privacy: the screen blocks the view from the sides, a pergola blocks the sun from above. Our aluminium pergolas come from the same factory, with a roof of solid aluminium slats. For the rest of the house, see villa aluminium works.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between yard screens and window screens?

Yard and roof screens sit on a wall or roof edge to block the view into an open space; external window screens are sun breakers in front of a window that keep the sun off its glass. Both are aluminium slats that let air and light through.

How much does a square metre of screens cost?

Aluminium screens start from SAR 350/m², supplied and installed, before VAT, in Makkah, about SAR 20 to 30 below louvers. The figure moves with size, slat density, the fixing surface, working height and city.

Do aluminium screens block the air from the yard?

No. The gaps between the slats let air and light through, unlike a solid wall. A narrower gap gives more privacy and less air, so density is set at the site visit.

Do aluminium screens rust?

No. Aluminium does not rust, which suits yards and roofs exposed to sun and dust. Upkeep is light: wash the slats with water when dust builds up, and check the fixings after strong dust storms.

Can a screen be fixed on an existing wall?

Yes. Most screens sit on an existing yard wall, roof edge or party wall. The site visit checks that surface, the height and the wind exposure first, because they decide the fixing.

Do you make laser-cut aluminium screens?

Yes. Alongside slat screens, we make laser-cut aluminium screens: a sheet with a pattern cut through it by laser at our factory in Makkah, as we do for our aluminium cladding panels and mashrabiya designs. It is fixed on a yard wall or roof edge, gives privacy and shade, and lets air and light through the pattern. The pattern and size are set in a quote for each order.

What do I send to get a quote for screens?

The wall or roof-edge length, the height to screen, photos from inside and outside, and the city, by the quote form or WhatsApp on +966 54 873 1405. A site visit then measures, and the order is priced on the approved sizes.
